Inventive painter working in the SF Bay Area
I’m not academically trained but since 1996 I have had some great painting teachers including the Kelly Luscombe Bea, Glen Hirsch and Larry Robinson. My influences include Magritte, Douanier Rousseau and Howard Finster. Important ingredients include a vibrant color palette and a sense of humor and the absurd. I work from photos or sketches, often combining images from different sources.
My inspirations are varied. Post-industrial urban landscapes evoke feelings of nostalgia for the non-digital past and the passage of time. I also love to travel and paint images and places evocative of my memories. My work often includes fantastic, symbolic and animal imagery. Finally, I feel a kinship with prehistoric rock artists and I often travel to see their work.
